It’s said, that if only one person can recite from memory the Shurangama mantra then it is enough to keep the armies of demons, evils ghosts, goblins, spirits from taking over the earth and creating a mess on our planet; It’s the one mantra they respect! Shakyamuni Buddha taught this mantra and made known the amazing merit, virtues, and powers that come from reciting it from memory. It’s the longest of all the Buddhist mantras by far; it takes about 10-15 minutes to finish.
Yes, it has amazing powers. And thank goodness that today buddhists all over the world recite it, teach it to others interested in demonstrating their worldly compassion through memorized recitation of it. Thank goodness, that today the Shurangama Sutra is still with us because the sign that we have begun to decay as a world is when the Sutra with its Mantra are no longer with us.
It’s also said that the first sutra to disappear from this world will be the Shurangama Sutra with its powerful saving mantra. What will happen to this world? You think it’s hard now but what about when mental illness rises exponentially due to these evil creatures playing sick tricks and games on people? When truth is obscured by egotism? When what matters most due to the disappearance of this sutra is me me me?
That’s why I encourage my readers to give to Buddhist Monasteries, organizations, bloggers, and people who respect the Shurangama Sutra and do everything they can to make sure its saving power is still with us for many future generations to come. Yes, today we are in ok shape due to the diligent work of these people who spend months memorizing it, resources and energy protecting it, and making sure it’s still around.
They say faith moves mountains; yes, I agree, but faith uses people, hearts, minds, and bodies so what are you doing to make sure this Sutra remains with us?
I recommend giving to City Of 10,000 Buddhas some kind of yearly or monthly donation because they do all this work for us teaching the Shurangama Mantra and explaining its Sutra. Don’t think this work will magically happen on its own.

You can buy the sutra yourself and read it, learn it, make offerings to it, whatever way you find to make sure you develop deep ties/affinity to it so that in future lives if you so desire even if you can’t memorize it now, you are close to it in heart, body, and mind.
By the way, you every wonder why reciting mantras take so long to have an effect? Well, what I learned is that when we recite, these evil beings have their own mantras and powers that they recite. So while reciting mantras is helpful (remember my article on Nyasa), the Shurangama Mantra is the only one they truly respect. Think about that.
