If you’re young and wonder what every great writer reads in order to officially or unofficially introduce himself to the world of words this is it. If you really understand this book you are half way there, now all you need to do is experience life a little and start writing. I know, what do you need to experience right? Well you need to feel. You need to cry in your soul. You need to see 10,000 years ahead. And you need to say what you feel. Read this book. It won’t be anything too new. Every great writer in his soul already knows this information. It’s just a reminder of who you are. The main idea is KISS (Keep it simple Stupid).
I’m a Blogger, I write more words than necessary because it helps with getting different ads on my page. However, when writing a book KISS is best. The fewer words the stronger your writing; basically it’s Twitter’s concept. It forces you to Edit; Edit out the Fluff and let readers digest your raw ideas.
A college professor once privately told me my paper was Ivy League quality. I shrugged my shoulders, half smiled, thinking, I do what I can with what I have. I can’t afford Ivy League College so I produce the same or better quality material. I can’t buy it but I’ll make it.
Another writing story? Probably the greatest I have is this one. My freshmen year in college I took my first English course with an African American professor. I hated being told how to write and seeing everyone around me do it effortlessly. So I had a paper to write and I bought one off the Internet. I got caught! She told me she needed to speak with me about my paper. I said sure. She asked if I had anything to say. I said yea I plagerized the fucking paper cause I don’t like learning how to write. She told me to get PRIVATE tutoring. All my papers after that were my own and Professors were dazzled. (I always did better with private tutoring, maybe this shows the importance of my post on Home Schooling, or small class learning)
I got comments like, “Interesting perspective.” I was asked to read my paper on Porn, Women, and Sexuality in my Sexual Anthropology class. I wasn’t into that. But I was asked to so hey, Are You Not Entertained?!! Is this Not what you Are Here for?! Or when an old friend is having trouble in his own writing class and I just tell him everything I know in a way I think helped him see writing is really easy, or easier than he allowed himself to believe for whatever his reason.
This writing business and I go way back. I wanted to be an inventor. I wanted to make something useful when I was 7 years old. I wanted to create products that would make life efficient for people. Unfortunately that changed; School happened. Sucky teachers with Home problems, their own kids, matrimonial dilemas, adult dating and relating problems, and then my peers with small goals who I kind of needed to understand. So inventing products never happened. The closest I got was wanting to create computer programs after High School. Now we have all these Apps for IPhones. But that didn’t happen either.
I got left with this, Writing.
I was once told by A Chinese Man, “Sometimes in life we want one thing but get something else.” He said it like he was being serious, funny, sad, and concerned at the same time. I hope all this says more than what shows up on your screen; Because it really does.
It’s a short read. KISS
